RESEARCH PROJECTS

Sylvie Blangy is currently a researcher funded on a 3 year European Marie Curie research fellowship.

She is studying the relations between community based Ecotourism and new innovative sustainable land and natural resources management strategies and models in Canada.

She works with the Cree communities and First Nations of Moose Factory in Northern Ontario and the 9 First Nations of Eeyou Istchee of James Bay, Québec in partnership with COTA. The Cree Outiftting & Tourism Association.

She has been working as a consultant in Ecotourism for 15 years (50 assignments, 40 countries) with a particular focus on Aboriginal tourism. She completed a guide book on Indigenous tourism compiling 183 initiatives from 60 different countries and is now analyzing the data derived from these case studies.

She has developed an integrated web site with a forum of discussion, a survey on line, a Google map and she is testing in collaboration with the 183 communities new ways of conducting participatory research on line.. http://spip.sylvie-blangy.org. for remote Aboriginal communities.

She is aiming at developing a set of techniques specific to Aboriginal tourism projects and products design in Northern Canada.

Sylvie was a member of the accreditation and tourism product committee of the Québec Aboriginal Tourism Association (STAQ) for one year.
