Dr Anna Spenceley is an independent consultant and researcher who works on responsible tourism and sustainable development issues, mainly in emerging economies. Based in South Africa, she specializes in biodiversity conservation, sustainable livelihoods, certification, fair trade, transboundary protected areas, poverty alleviation, integrated and triple-bottom-line assessments. Dr Spenceley is research fellow with the Transboundary Protected Areas Research Initiative (TPARI) focusing on the impacts of tourism investment in the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area. Her fellowship is supported by the BMW Chair for Sustainability at the University of the Witwatersrand, the National Research Foundation and the IUCN World Conservation Union’s Southern African Sustainable Use Specialist Group (SAUSUG). Her doctoral research saw the development the Sustainable Nature-Based Tourism Assessment Toolkit (SUNTAT) – designed to address the environmental, socio-cultural and economic sustainability of nature-based tourism enterprises. The work was conducted through the International Centre for Responsible Tourism. Anna is a member of a number of professional associations including the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) Tourism Task Force, the IUCN-WCPA Transboundary Protected Areas Taskforce and the IUCN’s Southern African Sustainable Use Specialist Group. She was a judge on the World Travel and Tourism Council’s (WTTC) Tourism for Tomorrow Awards in 2005 and 2006, and is a director of the International Centre of Responsible Tourism – South Africa

Anna Spenceley, PHD, se spécialise dans le tourisme durable et responsable. En tant que chercheuse et consultante, elle étudie l’impact de l’écotourisme sur les économies locales, comment de tels projets peuvent réduire la pauvreté et aider par ailleurs à la préservation dd la biodiversité. Elle travaille essentiellement en Afrique et est actuellement rattachée à l’université du Witwatersrand (où est-ce exactement ?).
