Judy Bennett
Judy Bennett has twenty-five years experience in the tourism industry, principally with her own businesses. At the age of 47 she undertook her Masters in International Tourism Policy, writing her thesis on the Kuna Indians of San Blas, in the Republic of Panama, and their struggle to maintain control of tourism development on their lands. She later returned to Panama where, at the request of the Kuna General Congress, she ran workshops on the San Blas islands assisting the Kuna in the planning of small tourism facilities.
Since 2002 Judy has been assisting the development of Aboriginal-owned tourism enterprises in Australia’s far north. Initially her involvement was part of an action research project for her PhD, but since obtaining her doctorate, Judy is now with First Australians Business, a not-for-profit organisation which encourages and supports Indigenous enterprise.
