Abigail Rome
Abigail Rome is an independent consultant who promotes ecotourism, sustainable tourism and conservation. Most of her international work has focused on Latin America, though she has also researched and written papers on related topics around the world. She has a Masters degree in plant ecology from Duke University (North Carolina) and spent ten years working with conservation NGOs in protected areas management, first in the eastern U.S. and then in South America. She lived in Ecuador for five years, establishing and managing nature reserves and helping develop ecotourism in local communities. Currently, Abi conducts research on a variety of ecotourism subjects (including ecotourism and sustainable tourism certification), writes reports and articles for the general public, offers workshops and trainings, and organizes and leads occasional ecotours.
