Cristina Eghenter
The author has been working with WWF Indonesia in East Kalimantan (Kayan Mentarang project) for the last nine years. Previously, she worked in the area as a social researcher. Her work has focused mostly on management of natural resources, capacity building of local organizations, and development of sustainable economic alternatives and benefit-sharing schemes with the communities of the national park (handicraft production ; community-based ecotourism ; agroforestry ; etc.). The author has initiated and conducted several participatory planning exercises to support the sustainable management of natural resources and conservation, and advocated the involvement of communities in the management of the conservation area. She has also extensively written about the area, historical, social, and cultural aspects of Dayak communities in the interior, in academic journals as well as magazines and for international fora.
