Bruce Forbes
Bruce C. Forbes is Research Professor in Global Change at Arctic Centre, University of Lapland, Rovaniemi, Finland. He has published widely on applied issues in circumpolar permafrost environments, with emphasis on the disturbance ecology of hydrocarbon development and tundra rangelands.
Recent research has focused on the management of arctic ungulates employing both western and local knowledge in cooperation with Nenets and Saami reindeer herders.
He is the lead editor of Reindeer Management in Northernmost Europe : Linking Practical and Scientific Knowledge in Social-Ecological systems (2006) and The Human Role in Reindeer and Caribou Grazing Systems (2000). He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Arctic Research Consortium of the United States (ARCUS) and the Scientific Steering Group of the International Study of Arctic Change (ISAC). He also serves on the editorial boards of Polar Geography and Fennia. He holds an MA in Northern Studies from Norwich University, Vermont and a PhD in Ecological Biogeography from McGill University.
