Here at 3 Rivers Eco Lodge in Dominica we run a community life package holiday, where every day of activities is spent in the village with the locals, learning local farming methods, crafts, and helping in the village school. The host for each activity receives the payment for the day- guests are actively encouraged to participate in this programme :
learning traditional farming methods and how to make & taste one of Dominica’s national dishes - Calalou Soup ; discovering traditional herbal medicines & remedies, and tasting various bush teas ; coffee and coco picking, peeling, fermenting and drying on two local plantations ; local village primary school - getting to know the kids, and sharing experiences with them and learning the local history ; learn traditional dancing and how to play Dominican Jinn ping music ; Band practice with our local Reggae and Calypso stars - The Blazing Squad ; harvesting coconuts & bamboo, learning to make crafts with them at local Bay Oil factory ; learn to make ancient knitting or flower crafts
The Sustainable Living Initiative Centre ( SLIC ), Dominica, was officially launched in February, 2005 and was established to promote awareness of environmental issues and specifically to promote the use of simple technology to minimize negative impact on the environment and conserve natural resources in Dominica. To this end we are running a training programme and building an Sustainable Living Study Centre in the heart of the Rain Forest where both students and villagers can experience sustainable living first hand and acquire skills to adopt environmentally responsible lifestyles.
The Project is being undertaken in collaboration with 3 Rivers Eco Lodge and Lifeline Ministries, a registered NGO, and combines demonstration with hands on learning and access to affordable technology that will be used in homes and farms across the country.
We facilitate a programme of Alternative Energy and Organic Farming Training Modules.
