Las Nubes is an Ejido located at the South of the Lacandona Rainforest. Inhabited by Mayan descendants who organized themselves in a group called “Green Causes at Las Nubes” this Ejido enjoys an astonishing scenery of well preserved forest contained in a mountainous range surrounded by the turquoise-blue waters of Santo Domingo river.
During a visit to Las Nubes, visitors can enjoy the hospitality of the local people.
A small group of Mam arrived to this part of the Lacandona forest over twenty years ago in search of land, from the highlands of the Sierra Madre.
The morning mist of the rainforest was new to them and made them call their new settlement “las Nubes” (The Clouds).
Nowadays, the different ethnic groups that live at Las Nubes include, apart from the Mam, the Chol and the Canjobal ; all Mayan but the latter, migrants who arrived during the Guatemalan guerrilla.
One of the most peaceful and safe places to visit in Chiapas, inhabited by friendly people who will be happy to share the richness of their flora and fauna, guide you to the “Vistahermosa” (“beautiful view”) view point or lead you though “Rock City” a complex of walls and “streets” formed by sedimentary rock. Comfortable rooms with inside bathrooms are available as well as a small restaurant which serves traditional Mexican food prepared by local women.
