Yunguilla is a community comprised by 50 peasant families devoted to organic agriculture, livestock raising, handcrafts and tourism. Located in north-western Ecuador at 2650 m, it enjoys temperate weather between 12 to 25 centigrade degrees. It is part of the Protector Forest in the Upper Basin of the Guallabamba River, holding significant area of cloud forest. Many exotic species of bromeliads and orchids can be observed in the forest. It also holds a significant number of bird species.
Spectacular pre-inca are found, which are known as “culuncos”, forming a criss-crossing network. These paths were used for trading products between the highlands and the coastal lands. Yunguilla caters a restaurant for visitors where excellent breakfast and luncheons are served. Lodging is also available at houses belonging to community members. Double rooms are accessible with shared bathroom, provided with hot running water. Treks, bird watching, agricultural activities with the community, horse back riding are some of the activities to be enjoyed at Yunguilla.
